Hawkbill Hike

Well, the third time's the charm. We finally made it the short stretch across the ridge from the downcomer on Snowball Mountain to Hawkbill Rock. The hike took a total of 4 hours including a nice 30 minute respite for lunch on the hawk itself. After lunch, we explored along the trail toward's Little Snowball Mountain. The total trip was probably 4.5 miles, with the trip between Potatoe Field Gap and Hawkbill being about 4 miles of it. The views were awesome and weather - incredible.

We also saw interesting flora and the blueberries should be ripe in just a couple of weeks.

Hawkbill Hike - Set 1

Pics from the hike

August's First Haircut

Amazingly not a tear was shed. I wish I could say the same had been true
for Aeden.

New Paint on the Fodi Household

After Cabot agreed to warranty the paint (see first pic for the reason), we decided to spruce up with some new colors. The cost of painting wasn't cheap but it made it a bit easier given we had all the paint. Wow - the house didn't look this good when it was brand new. These guys did a great job.

Got the decks powerwashed too - now I just need to put a coat of deck sealer on them.

First Family River Kayak Trip

I must admit that I had fun, despite the numerous bottom scrapes, rock perches and bottom dragging that we did. Oh yeah, flipping a sit on top - twice - on this size of water has to be some kind of record as well ;-). As for the rest of the family - well, I think Aeden's expression says it all.

We started off for a three hour cruise. Not bad for 20 minutes of shuttling to a river that is five minutes from the house. The water was pretty high - we just didn't seem to have a knack for finding the deeper spots in rocky sections. Lot's of flora and fauna. Bunches of king fishers, a couple of great blue herons, saw a few fish and a number of hikers (all of whom seemed to want to take a picture of us in the boat).

The kids seemed to enjoy it, more after the fact than during, but August kept saying "big rock... big rock" which he readily learned after we ended up perched on top of the fifth or sixth rock and I had to get out and push. He got lots more practice at that statement throughout the paddle.

Definitely will need to get out there again. I'll see if I can talk Aeden into taking a run when the water is a bit higher.

Hawk's Bill Rock Hike (well - almost)

A few of the neighbors kids and some friends on a hike from Potato Field Gap toward Hawk's Bill Rock. This is the second time we've been in site of the destination, but had to turn about before achieving the goal due to lack of time. A really nice hike anyway, though.
