I've started playing around with photoshop to combine different exposures of the same... it produces a neat effect, allowing the scene to represent a combined set of exposures and providing detail that wouldn't otherwise be there.
This shot captures the background well, but the moss in the foreground is well under exposed.

Great on job on the moss, but the background is almost completely washed out.

Using cut and paste and photoshops magic selection tool... I get the best of both worlds. The blue of the sky and details on the trees and the true green of the moss. The camera greatly helps with this, in that it supports taking a over and under exposed photo automatically with every shot.
