Trip to Mack's

A visit with a fawn and lots of cousins!!!!

Save the trails Challenge

Save the Trails Challenge

It rode just like a beefed up White Water Center – with some longer
climbs and fire roads thrown in for good measure. Pretty enjoyable –
my only two gripes were the amount of attention required to stay on
course (including my my escalating concern after going a while and not
seeing a marker – which seemed to be quite often) and a slight
discrepancy in the cited distance. They told us at the beginning of
the race that the course was 39 miles, but after running out of water
at 42-43 miles and not knowing how much further until the end – I
started to get disconcerted. We finally finishing up at around 45
miles (which included a few missed turns and loop backs – but nowhere
near six miles worth).

Great first day of school for Aeden

We had a wonderful first day of school in the 4th grade!  Aeden had a big smile on his face all day, and was especially excited to be picked by the teachers as one of our two 4th Grade Head Ambassadors. Please enjoy the attached pictures of Aeden and our whole 4th grade group. Our year is already off to a great start!

Aeden and August's B Day Party

Despite the forecast for all day rain - things managed to hold off
until after the party - though it seems like the kids may quite their
own contribution to the wet weather.

Tuesday afternoon at Fripp

The afternoon was consumed by feeding Buddy (the resident terrapin in
the nature center at Hunting Island), a bike ride on one of the inland
trails and looping back along the beach at low tide, followed by some
crabbing and fishing on the pier. We stopped by and picked up Cathy
on the way back and got some ice cream.

Bike ride to the far playground

What was going to be a short jaunt turned into about 7 miles when Aeden explained that he wanted to go to the playground near where we were last time... At least they got some exercise...

Hunting Island Ranger Quest

Protected by two Palmetto Warriors - we formed a strong troop, navigating the trails at Hunting Island state park. We were on a quest to find the answers to the ancient riddles of the island... or something like that (the Ranger gave us a map and some general directions along with a clipboard and backpack). We pursued answers deep in Oak strewn hammock and under the leaves of the Slash pine and onto the Marsh Boardwalk as well - where we got help capture some rouge crabs. From there we took the extremely dangerous rattlesnake trail back to the nature center - where the ranger awarded two Ranger Quest badges for completing the arduous journey. He also accommodated us by letting us hold Willy, a 16 year old Eastern King Snake. We'll plan to show up tomorrow to the feeding of Buddy, a very personable terrapin, and (if we are able to capture a lizard) the feeding of Willy as well.
